Fernando Ricksen: “Via deze weg wil ik graag iedereen bedanken voor de vele steunbetuigingen die ik de laatste dagen heb ontvangen nadat vorige week bij mij de spierziekte ALS is geconstateerd. De ontelbare mailtjes, tweets, reacties op Facebook, het onthaal bij de boekpresentatie, de spandoeken, het langdurige geklap op de tribunes bij Fortuna Sittard, AZ en Glasgow Rangers, het is werkelijk fantastisch. Ik krijg er een brok van in mijn keel. En tranen. Maar niet de tranen als woensdagavond bij De Wereld Draait Door. Dit zijn tranen van ontroering. Dat iedereen zo meeleeft, dat is werkelijk ongekend, daarvan ben ik diep onder de indruk. Zelfs supporters van Celtic steunen mij en steken mij een hart onder de riem. Dat zegt veel. Omdat ik vanwege de enorme hoeveelheid reacties niet iedereen persoonlijk kan bedanken, doe ik het op deze manier.
Eén ding wil ik alleen niet. Dat mensen mij zielig vinden. Want dat ben ik niet. Ik blijf vechten. Wat ik al eerder zei: ooit zal er iemand de eerste zijn die deze verschrikkelijke ziekte verslaat én overleeft. Laat ik die persoon dan maar zijn. Ik blijf de fighter die ik altijd ben geweest. Dat kunnen jullie van mij aannemen.”

‘Thanks for all the support’
Fernando Ricksen: “Through this statement, I want to thank everyone for the many messages I received in the past few days, after I was diagnosed with the muscular disease ALS. The countless emails and tweets, thousands of replies, the banners and the minutes applause on the stands at Fortuna Sittard, AZ, Glasgow Rangers and Zenit St. Petersburg, it was fantastic. It gave me a lump in my throat, and then there were tears. Not the same tears as that Wednesdayevening on TV in De Wereld Draait Door. These were tears of emotion. The sympathy of everyone, that is incredible, and I am deeply impressed by that. Even the supporters of Celtic show their sympathy and are backing me. This is significant. This means so much to me. Because of the enormous amount of replies, I can’t thank everyone personal, so I do it through this statement.
There is one thing I don’t want. I don’t want people to pity me. I (will) keep on fighting. Earlier I have said: one time someone has to be the first person to beat this terrible disease and survive. Let me be that person. I will be the fighter that I always have been. You can count on that.”

I hope there will be a cure to help you with this illness you have. I would say god bless. but i do not believe in such person due to personal reason. Please get well Fernando. Als teammaat en persoon heb ik veel bewondering voor je hoe je dit in de wereld hebt gebracht. De vele steunbetuigingen van vele clubs in binnen en buitenland maken je een nog groter persoon. Er zijn weinig woorden die bij je passen.

During your time in Glasgow, you showed great stength, determination and character within yourself when at Rangers and these things you will always have and it is so important that you remember that! Hello from Scotland Fernando.
I am a Rangers fan for over 50 years and I was diagnosed MND nearly FIVE years ago.
I get very tired and have little problems to speak, but I still have a good quality of life.
I have fought very hard, and I KNOW I will be here in 20 years ;o)
I deteriorated for maybe 1 or 2 years, but I take HIGH amounts of vitamin E and do little exercise. I take much antioxidant drinks like Cranberry Juice, Pomegranate Juice, Red wine, Blueberry juice and Black cherry juice. But Red Wine is best ;o)
I tell my neurologist I take my Riluzole at exactly 08:00hrs with Cranberry juice and 20:00hrs with 2 glass of Red wine hahahaha.
My wife and I know exactly what you and your wife are going through, so my heart and love are with you.
NEVER give up Fernando, you showed this courage in your professional life, I KNOW you will be like me and fight.

Ben erg geschrokken van dit nieuws en wens je dan ook zeer veel sterkte toe! Zal de partijtjes voetbal in onze jeugd nooit vergeten op het trainings/grind-veldje achter het huidige NEC’92. ten eerste blijf strijdlustig (vechtlust is niet voor niks de titel van je boek, denk ik, ga het zelf met surprise krijgen, het boek dus). Ik heb je altijd bewondert als voetballer, voorop in de strijd, daar houd ik zelf persoonlijk ook wel van. Jij en Barry van Galen, waren 2 spelers die ik het liefste zag bij mijn favo club(Feyenoord), maar helaas is dat nooit gebeurd. Je hebt een prachtige carriere gehad, en idd iemand zal de eerste zijn die die kutziekte verslaat, ik geloof in je! Sterkte, want ook dat is een deel wat je nodig hebt, ouwe trijderer.

Beste Fernando ik heb zeer met je te doen zelf heb ik m s… ik ben nu met en soort dieet bezig wellicht slaat het ook aan bij a l s…veel ziektes ontstaan toch door voedsel intolerantie… ben ik zeer zeker van overtuigd..Door speciale voeding te schrappen.kom je er achter dat je voor uit gaat i p v achteruit.Je kunt best eens contact met mij opnemen.Ik ben nu met je boek bezig.
